Life Skills Trainer

  1. Background

Teach For Palestine is an independent non-governmental Palestinian organization established in early 2023. Its mission is to contribute to providing quality and inclusive school education for all children in Palestine. This is achieved through improving the classroom and school environment, adopting innovative teaching, and learning methods, and seeking to provide promising creative solutions to educational challenges, especially in marginalized and remote areas.

TFP is working on develop collective leadership by investing in promising teachers who commit to teach in vulnerable schools and become lifelong advocates for the right of every child to learn in safe and quality learning environments and take actions towards achieving this right. The program focuses on equipping the targeted teachers of primary levels with the necessary skills, knowledge, and mindsets to achieve transformative educational outcomes in Palestine.

Life skills are increasingly recognized as fundamental to the educational achievements and personal growth of students. Given the Ministry of Education’s commitment to holistic education, there is a critical need to equip new teachers with the skills to integrate life skills education into primary classrooms effectively.

The necessity for life skills training among primary school teachers cannot be overstated. Such training ensures that educators are well-equipped with the necessary tools and methodologies to teach life skills effectively. It empowers teachers to foster environments that promote social and emotional well-being, enhancing students’ learning experiences and preparing them for the challenges of tomorrow. By investing in life skills training for teachers, educational institutions contribute to building a resilient, thoughtful, and proactive younger generation, capable of contributing positively to society.

2. Objective

The trainer will be responsible for delivering the life skills training sessions through interactive and impactful ways and help teachers for primary levels to acquire the skills and knowledge outlined in the ToR.

The primary objective of this training program is to deepen and expand new teachers’ comprehension and practical application of life skills within primary educational contexts. Specifically designed for teachers who have recently commenced their careers with the Ministry of Education, the program aims to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively integrate life skills into their teaching methodologies, thereby enriching the educational experience for students.

Specific goals include:

  • Establishing a strong comprehension of life skills concepts among the participating teachers.
  • Identifying key life skills beneficial for primary students and methods to cultivate these in the classroom.
  • Fostering a collaborative learning community within the training group to enhance shared learning and experience exchange.

3. Scope of Training

The Life Skills Trainer will undertake the following responsibilities to ensure the effective delivery of the training program:

  • Conducting Dynamic Training Sessions: The trainer will facilitate engaging and interactive sessions covering a comprehensive range of life skills, including:
    • Communication skills.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving.
    • Decision-making and goal setting.
    • Self-awareness and self-learning.
    • Time management skills.
    • Stress management.
    • Resilience.
    • Motivational skills.
    • Interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Employing Varied Instructional Strategies: To maximize participant engagement and learning outcomes, diverse educational techniques will be utilized. These will include group discussions, role-playing scenarios, case study analyses, and practical, hands-on activities.
  • Providing Coaching and Support: Individual and group coaching sessions will be offered as needed to address specific learning needs and reinforce skill acquisition during the training.
  • Evaluating Training Effectiveness: The trainer will assess the effectiveness of the training program through the implementation of comprehensive pre- and post-training evaluations, alongside ongoing feedback collection.
  • Reporting and Recommendations: At the conclusion of the training, the trainer will prepare and submit detailed reports summarizing the training outcomes, participant progress, and provide recommendations for future trainings or continuous development of the program.

4. Deliverables

The Life Skills trainer will be expected to deliver the following:

  • 11 interactive training sessions.
  • Pre- and post-training evaluation reports.
  • Final training report with analysis of outcomes and recommendations.

5. Duration and Location

  • The assignment will commence on 31st July 2024  and conclude on 30th September 224 with a total of 11 training sessions. Two virtual training sessions will equate to one face to face session/day. A maximum of six days will be dedicated to virtual training, accounting for three out of the eleven sessions.
  • Training sessions will be conducted both face to face and virtually based on prior agreement.

6. Qualifications and Experience

  • At least BA degree in education, Psychology, or any other related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in delivering life skills training.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interactive and participatory training methodologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to assess training needs and evaluate training outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
