TERMS OF REFERENCE
For “Fresh graduate” teachers’ trainer
1. Background: Teach For Palestine is an independent non-governmental Palestinian organization established in early 2023. Its mission is to contribute to providing quality and inclusive school education for all children in Palestine. This is achieved through improving the classroom and school environment, adopting innovative teaching and learning methods, and seeking to provide promising creative solutions to educational challenges, especially in marginalized and remote areas.
Teach For Palestine aims to prepare a cohort of fresh graduate teachers from diverse backgrounds, who will soon transition into teaching roles as “Fellows” for two years, through a comprehensive Summer Institute. The program focuses on equipping Fellows with the necessary skills, knowledge, and mindsets to achieve transformative educational outcomes in Palestine.
2. Objective: The trainer will lead the instructional and leadership sessions at the Summer Institute, guiding Fellows in acquiring essential skills and understanding key principles outlined in the ToR for Fellows. The trainer will ensure that all sessions are designed to achieve the following objectives:
- Prepare Fellows to effectively engage with students towards transformational educational outcomes.
- Foster a commitment to collaborative partnership with school staff, parents, coaches, and peers.
- Develop a deep understanding of Palestine’s education system and approaches to addressing systemic inequities.
- Instill a commitment to Teach For Palestine’s theory of change and its application in educational contexts.
- Cultivate Fellows’ personal purpose and leadership capacities in service of systemic equity and educational reform.
- Integrate Fellows into the Teach For Palestine community, aligning with organizational values and objectives.
3. Scope of Training: The trainer will provide expertise and guidance in the following areas:
- Leadership Development: Facilitate sessions on personal leadership, classroom leadership, mobilization of communities, and leadership within the educational system.
- Teaching Practices and Alternative Methods: Introduce innovative and interactive teaching methods that promote student engagement and learning.
- Child Agency: Empower Fellows to recognize and support student agency in the learning process.
- Classroom Management: Equip Fellows with effective strategies for maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment.
- Lesson Planning: Guide Fellows in creating well-structured and engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse student needs and learning styles
- Providing feedback on lesson plans, weekly plans, assessments, etc.
- Creating differentiated support plans based on the needs of Fellows.
4. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver training sessions that incorporate interactive and participatory methodologies, ensuring engagement and active participation from Fellows.
- Building and executing a robust culture for the Fellows aligned to the core values.
- Assess Fellows’ progress and provide constructive feedback to support their development in leadership and teaching practices.
- Collaborate with program staff to align training content with overall program goals and ensure coherence across different training components.
- Prepare and distribute session materials, including resources, handouts, and presentations, to support effective learning outcomes.
5. Duration and Location: The trainer will be engaged for the duration of the Summer Institute (16 days) and after (8 days), conducting sessions in Ramallah city and potentially virtually online.
6. Qualifications and Experience:
- A background in education, with specific expertise in teacher training, leadership development, and educational equity.
- Proven experience in delivering training programs that integrate innovative teaching practices and promote student-centered learning.
- Familiarity with Palestine’s education system and cultural context is advantageous.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse groups of learners.
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic (spoken and written) is essential.

- Proven capability to perform well under pressure, with minimal supervision, and while meeting deadlines.

7. Deliverables:
- Detailed session plans and materials for each training module, including assessments and evaluations.
- Progress reports on Fellows’ development and recommendations for ongoing improvement.
- Final report summarizing the impact of the training program on Fellows’ readiness and preparedness for educational roles.
8. Reporting: The trainer will report to the program manager, providing regular updates and feedback on training progress and outcomes.
9. Budget and Resources: The trainer will operate within the allocated budget for the Summer Institute, ensuring efficient use of resources while delivering high-quality training sessions.
10. Evaluation: The trainer’s performance will be evaluated based on their ability to deliver comprehensive and effective training sessions, engage Fellows in meaningful learning experiences, and contribute to the achievement of program objectives.
